Description

For Derbi Senda models built in 1996–1999 (the very first years of Senda production), choosing an accelerator cable is a specific matter, because these versions mostly used a splitter (throttle splitter).

Here is the most important information you need to know before looking for or ordering this part:

1. System layout: a "two-part" cable

The Derbi Senda of this period (usually with a Dell'Orto carburettor) uses a splitter system that looks like this:

  • Cable A: Runs from the throttle grip to the splitter box (which sits under the fuel tank).

  • Cables B and C: Two separate cables come out of the splitter – one to the carburettor, the other to the oil pump (if you use separate lubrication).

Important: Most spare parts shops sell this whole assembly as a single set. When buying, look for the name: "Throttle cable assembly for Derbi Senda 50 1996-1999".

2. What to look out for when buying

  • Oil pump: If your scooter/motorcycle no longer has a working oil pump (you mix the petrol and oil directly in the tank), you need a single-cable system ("Direct throttle cable"). In that case you can look for a simple cable that runs straight from the grip to the carburettor, but it will need the right length and ends (nipples).

  • Carburettor type: 1996–1999 models mostly had Dell'Orto PHVA 14 or 17.5 carburettors. Make sure the carburettor-end fitting of the cable matches the slide cap of your carburettor.

3. Where to look for the part

As this is an older model, original Derbi parts can be hard to find, so it is best to choose cables from reliable aftermarket manufacturers (e.g. RMS, Vicma, JMP).

  • Search keywords: "Derbi Senda 50 1996-1999 throttle cable" or "Derbi Senda gas cable set".

  • Tip: If you live in Lithuania, you can contact specialist scooter/motorcycle parts shops (e.g. Scooter-attack, EasyParts or local motorcycle parts suppliers), giving them exactly these years and the model.

4. Technical tip

If the old cable is simply sticking but has not snapped, before buying a new one it is recommended to:

  1. Remove the old cable.

  2. Use a dedicated spray (e.g. a Teflon lubricant or cable lube) that is fed into the outer.

  3. If the cable still sticks, it means one of the strands inside has snapped and is "snagging" the outer – in that case the cable must be replaced, as it could snap while riding, which is extremely dangerous (the throttle may stick open).
