Good to know
LED or a conventional bulb
An LED tail light is brighter, switches on instantly and has no bulb to blow, but if the diodes fail the whole light usually has to be replaced. A light with a conventional bulb is easier to repair, as you only need to change the bulb. If the LED light has built-in indicators, you may need an LED-compatible relay.
The whole light or just the lens
If only the red lens has cracked and the housing and socket are intact, replacing the lens is enough – there are lenses for the Yamaha Neos and Peugeot Speedfight 2 lights, for example. Water gets in through a cracked lens, corroding the contacts and ruining bulbs, so don't put off the repair.
Fitting and connectors
Replacement lights mount in the factory positions, while the connectors on sport STR8 or TNT lights sometimes differ from the stock ones – in that case the wires need to be reconnected according to the wiring diagram. After fitting, check the side lights, the brake light with both brakes, and the indicators if they're built into the light.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a tail light for my scooter?
Search by model and year of manufacture – for example, the Yamaha Aerox up to 2013 and later models have different lights. If you're not sure, email your model to info@scootershop.lt or call +370 608 07699.
Will an LED tail light work in place of the standard one?
Yes, if it's designed for your model and the mounting points and connector match. The side light and brake light will work as normal, but built-in LED indicators may need a different relay.
Why is water collecting in the tail light?
Usually because of a cracked lens, a damaged seal or screws that aren't tightened properly. Take the light apart, dry it out, clean the contacts and replace the lens or seal, otherwise the bulbs and LEDs will soon fail.
What bulb does a tail light need?
Most standard tail lights use a BAY15D 12 V twin-filament bulb – one filament for the side light, the other for the brake light. LED lights have no separate bulb, and if you want to replace a conventional bulb with an LED, choose a BAY15D LED version.
