Fitting an alarm
A scooter alarm is usually powered by the 12 V battery, so it can only be fitted to a scooter that has a battery. It typically reacts to movement or impact and sounds a siren, and some also immobilise the engine. Hide the wires under the body panels and mount the unit away from moisture.
Chain and locking
The chain's length (1200 mm) lets you loop it around the frame and a fixed object. Lock it through the frame rather than a wheel, which can be removed, and keep the chain as high off the ground as possible – that makes it harder to use bolt cutters braced against the pavement. Check the product description to see whether a lock is included.
Frequently asked questions
Will the alarm drain the battery?
In standby mode the alarm draws little current, but over the winter or a longer lay-up it can drain the battery. When leaving the scooter for a long time, charge the battery periodically or switch the alarm off.
Can I fit the alarm myself?
Yes, if you can trace your scooter's wiring: you need to connect the power, the earth and, if present, the indicator or engine immobiliser wires. If you're unsure, email your model to info@scootershop.lt and we'll advise on the wiring.
What's the safest way to leave a scooter in town?
Choose a visible, well-lit spot and chain the scooter to a fixed object. An alarm and a chain together work better than either on its own, as the thief has to spend more time and make more noise.
