Good to know

Start with the engine family

Most engine parts only fit a specific engine family, so start by identifying it. Scooters commonly have Minarelli horizontal (Yamaha Aerox, MBK Nitro), Minarelli vertical (Yamaha BWS, MBK Booster), Piaggio / Gilera (Zip, Typhoon, NRG, Runner) and Peugeot vertical (Speedfight, Trekker) engines.

Geared mopeds often have Minarelli AM6 or Derbi engines.

The engine number

The engine number is usually stamped on the engine casing – it's worth cleaning it and taking a photo. The start of the number tells you the engine type, and if you can't read it, the registration document or a look at the cylinder position will help. With this information, finding parts in the catalogue or asking us is much easier.

Tuning as a whole

A bigger cylinder without other changes rarely gives the expected result. It has to be matched with the carburettor and jets, exhaust, variator and clutch, and sometimes the crankshaft too. When planning a tune, draw up the full parts list in advance – that way you'll avoid overheating or too lean a mixture.

Replace the small parts together

When stripping an engine it's worth having new gaskets, oil seals and, if needed, bearings – reused ones often let air or oil through. On a two-stroke engine even a small air leak past a crankshaft oil seal causes an unstable idle.

Frequently asked questions

How can I find out which engine my scooter has?

Check the registration document, the engine number on the casing and the cylinder position – a horizontal cylinder is typical of horizontal engines, an upright one of vertical engines. If in doubt, send a photo of your scooter and its model to info@scootershop.lt.

What's the difference between standard and performance engine parts?

Standard parts restore the engine's factory characteristics and are suited to repairs, while performance parts are designed to increase power or durability under higher loads. Performance parts usually need to be matched with each other.

Can I fit a cylinder kit myself?

You can if you have basic tools and a torque wrench, but cleanliness, correct ring positioning and running-in are important. After fitting, ride the first few kilometres at moderate revs.

How quickly will I receive my parts?

Items in stock are dispatched within 1–2 working days via DPD, Omniva or Venipak parcel lockers and couriers, and DPD also delivers to Latvia and Estonia. You can also collect your order from our shop at Draugystės g. 19D, Kaunas.
