About Motul
How to choose a 4T oil
First check the viscosity (e.g. 10W40) and standard specified by the motorcycle manufacturer. Motorcycles with a wet clutch need JASO MA or MA2 oil, while JASO MB is also suitable for scooters with automatic transmission. Motul 300V is a synthetic racing line, 7100 is synthetic for everyday use, and 5100 is semi-synthetic.
2T and gear oil
On a two-stroke scooter, oil goes into a separate tank or is mixed with petrol – this is stated on the packaging. Gear oil is changed separately: for most scooters a small bottle is enough, e.g. Motul Scooter Gear 80W90 150 ml. You will find the viscosity and quantity in your scooter's owner's manual.
Fluids and care
Brake fluid is chosen by the DOT standard shown on the brake master cylinder cap – different types of fluid must not be mixed. Fork oil is chosen by viscosity (e.g. 10W), and care products – chain lube, cleaners – help keep your motorcycle in good shape between seasons.
Frequently asked questions
Which Motul oil should I put in my scooter?
A four-stroke scooter takes a 4T oil with the viscosity specified by the manufacturer, usually 10W40 or 5W40. A two-stroke needs 2T oil for automatic lubrication. If in doubt, email your model to info@scootershop.lt – we'll advise you.
What is the difference between Motul 7100 and 5100?
Motul 7100 is a 100% synthetic oil, while 5100 is semi-synthetic (a blend of synthetic and mineral base oils). Both are designed for four-stroke motorcycles, and the synthetic oil copes better with high temperatures and high revs.
What are the 208 l oil drums for?
Large drums are intended for workshops and garages that change a lot of oil. We issue VAT invoices to businesses, and for a personal motorcycle a 1 or 4 l bottle is enough.
Can I mix brake fluid from different manufacturers?
Only DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 fluids can be mixed with one another, as they are glycol-based, but it is best to replace all the fluid. DOT 5 is silicone-based and must not be mixed with the others.
