About Dayco
Long or short block
Scooters with the same engine family can have a long or short variator block, so they need belts of different lengths. The block length is often linked to the rear wheel size and the model. The most reliable way to check is the marking on the old belt – it usually gives the length and width in millimetres.
When to replace the belt
The drive belt is worth replacing when it cracks, becomes narrower or shows shiny, overheated patches on its sides. A worn belt slips, so the scooter accelerates more slowly and no longer reaches its previous top speed. Kevlar-reinforced belts are more durable, so they are often chosen for tuned engines with a performance variator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know what size belt I need?
The old belt usually has its dimensions (length x width) or original part number printed on it. If the marking has worn off, email your scooter model and year to info@scootershop.lt – we'll check whether you need a long-block or short-block belt.
How does a Kevlar belt differ from a standard one?
A Kevlar-fibre-reinforced belt stretches less and copes better with higher loads and temperatures, so it is chosen for tuned engines. A standard belt suits a standard engine and everyday riding.
What else should I check when replacing the drive belt?
Inspect the variator rollers, the pulley faces and the clutch bell – worn rollers or scored pulleys quickly ruin a new belt. Fit the belt with clean hands, as oil or grease on it causes slipping.
