About AMSOIL

2T or 4T oil

Dominator 2T is designed for two-stroke engines – it burns along with the fuel, so it goes into the oil tank or is premixed with petrol. 4T oils for four-stroke motorcycles and ATVs circulate in the crankcase and lubricate the engine, clutch and gearbox. These oils are not interchangeable.

How to choose the viscosity

The viscosity (e.g. 10W-40 or 10W-50) is specified by the motorcycle or ATV manufacturer in the owner's manual. The first number shows how the oil flows in the cold, the second its viscosity at operating temperature. A higher second number suits more heavily loaded, hotter-running engines, but it is not worth departing from the manufacturer's recommendation.

Forks and air filter

Shock Therapy is a fork oil; #5 is thinner and #10 thicker, so forks work more firmly with it. Air Filter Oil is designed for foam air filters: an oiled filter traps dust better. Before oiling the filter, wash it, let it dry and only then soak it evenly with oil.

Frequently asked questions

Is AMSOIL Dominator 2T suitable for a scooter?

It is – it is a fully synthetic two-stroke engine oil that can also be used in scooters, especially high-revving performance engines. Pour it into the oil tank or mix it with petrol at the ratio specified by the manufacturer.

Can I put car oil in a motorcycle?

It is not recommended. Motorcycle 4T oil often also lubricates a wet clutch, and some friction-reducing additives in car oils can cause the clutch to slip. Choose an oil designed for motorcycles or ATVs that meets the manufacturer's requirements.

When should I change the fork oil?

Fork oil is changed according to the motorcycle manufacturer's schedule, usually every one or two seasons or after intensive off-road riding. If the forks have become soft, feel vague or the seals are leaking, it is worth changing the oil without waiting for the scheduled interval.

How much oil is in one AMSOIL bottle?

Most AMSOIL oils in the catalogue come in 0.946 l (one US quart) bottles, and Dominator 2T also in a 3.78 l container. Mudslinger is sold in 355 ml, and the air filter oil in a 397 g pack.
