Description

Throttle grip mechanism parts (Yamaha Aerox)

The Yamaha Aerox throttle mechanism is fairly simple, but over time some of its parts wear, stick or break. The "accelerator knob detail" usually refers to the throttle tube (throttle tube) or its plastic housing.

The main parts that most often need replacing

  1. Throttle tube:

    • What it is: A plastic cylinder onto which the rubber grip is fitted. It has a special groove for the throttle cable.

    • Why it fails: If the scooter has fallen on its side, this plastic often cracks or the lip that holds the cable breaks off. As a result the throttle cable can jump out or the grip can start to stick.

  2. Throttle housing:

    • What it is: The aluminium or plastic handlebar part in which the tube sits.

    • Why it fails: The plastic guide grooves inside can wear, so the grip turns stiffly or "jumps".

  3. Throttle cable:

    • Although it is not directly part of the grip, people often think the grip is sticking when in fact it is the cable itself that is fraying or dirty.

Important fitting and adjustment notes

  • Lubrication: The throttle mechanism must not be lubricated with thick greases (e.g. lithium grease), as they attract dust and sand, which act like sandpaper. If you feel it sticking, clean the mechanism with brake cleaner spray, and if really necessary use only a very thin silicone spray (dry lube).

  • Changing the grips: If you are changing the rubber grips, take care with the right-hand side. The rubber grip must not touch the mechanism housing – there must be a 1–2 mm gap between them. If the rubber rubs against the housing, the throttle will not return to its starting position.

  • Cable tension: After any work on the throttle mechanism, check that the revs do not rise when you turn the handlebar fully to the left or right. If they do, the cable is too short or incorrectly routed.

Tip: how to tell what has failed

  • If the grip turns but does not return: The problem is most likely in the tube groove (the cable is catching) or the cable is worn (frayed).

  • If the grip physically catches (sticks): Remove the rubber grip and check whether the tube is cracked or sand has got into the housing.

  • If you are looking to buy the part: Search using the keywords: "Yamaha Aerox throttle tube" or "Yamaha Aerox gas grip tube".

The Yamaha Aerox throttle mechanism must be especially responsive and turn easily. If you feel even the slightest sticking, clean it immediately – it directly affects your safety.
