About MVT
Why an inner-rotor ignition helps
A standard ignition usually has a heavy outer rotor, whereas the MVT Digital Direct has a small inner rotor. Lower inertia lets the engine rev up faster and respond more sharply to the throttle, which is why these ignitions are popular in tuned engines. Versions "with lights" have a lighting coil, so the lights work as normal.
Engine compatibility
MVT ignitions are made for a specific engine family, because the crankshaft taper and stator mounting differ. The Derbi Euro 2 / 3 and Euro 4 versions are not interchangeable, and the Minarelli variants differ in the number of coils on the standard stator (6 or 12). The AM6 version without a battery is intended for motorcycles whose lighting is powered directly by the generator.
Iron Max cylinders
Iron Max are MVT cylinder kits that increase displacement to 70–75 cc. The catalogue includes kits for Derbi Euro 3 / Euro 4 and Minarelli AM6 engines, separate 48.5 mm pistons and gasket sets, including for the 70 cc Minarelli vertical. A larger cylinder usually needs a larger jet, a sport exhaust and careful mixture tuning.
Frequently asked questions
Will an MVT ignition fit my engine?
It will fit if the engine type given in the product name matches yours: Derbi Euro 2 / 3, Derbi Euro 4, Minarelli AM6, Peugeot horizontal or Piaggio / Gilera. For Minarelli, the number of coils (6 or 12) also matters. If in doubt, call +370 608 07699.
What does "without battery" mean in the AM6 ignition name?
It is a version for motorcycles whose electrical system runs without a battery – the lighting is powered by the generator. If your motorcycle has a battery and an electric starter, please check with us by phone or email before ordering.
Do I need to change the carburettor settings after fitting an Iron Max cylinder?
Usually, yes. A larger displacement draws in more mixture, so the main jet is normally increased and the spark plug colour is checked after a test ride. A mixture that is too lean can quickly overheat the piston.
How does an inner-rotor ignition differ from the standard one?
Its rotor is much lighter, so the engine revs up faster and responds more sharply to the throttle – this is especially noticeable in tuned engines. For everyday riding with a standard cylinder, the standard ignition is usually enough.
