Good to know

Wiring looms by model and year

The wiring loom connects all of the scooter's electrics, so it must match the model and production year exactly – for example, Yamaha Aerox looms differ before and after 2004. Some loom descriptions give the OEM number (e.g. 1PL-H2590-00), which you can compare with your scooter's parts catalogue.

When it's worth replacing the whole loom

If the wiring has been damaged in several places after a crash, a fire or a long spell standing somewhere damp, a new loom saves a lot of fault-finding time. To join individual wires, use flexible wire and terminals, and insulate the joints with heat-shrink tubing. The insulation on an old loom hardens and cracks over time, especially around the steering column.

For safety: kill switches and alarms

A kill switch is an emergency engine cut-off that kills the ignition in one movement; on a track it's often mandatory. An alarm and a security chain help protect the scooter from theft, especially when you leave it in town or outside a block of flats. Only fit an alarm to a scooter with a healthy battery.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a wiring loom will fit my scooter?

Compare the model, production year and, if given, the OEM number with your scooter's details. If in doubt, email your model and year to info@scootershop.lt or call +370 608 07699.

What should I do if the brake light doesn't come on?

Check the bulb first, then the brake light switch on the lever or in the brake system. The switch is easy to test with a multimeter: its contacts should close when you pull the brake.

How do I repair a broken wire?

The most reliable way is to strip the insulation, join the wires with a terminal or solder them, and cover the joint with heat-shrink tubing. On a scooter, insulating tape eventually peels off from heat and moisture, so it's only good for a temporary fix.

Can I replace a wiring loom myself?

You can, if you have the time and patience: you'll need to remove some of the body panels, unplug all the connectors and route the new loom the same way. Photograph the connectors and wire mounting points before you strip things down – reassembly will be much easier.
