Good to know
Mechanical or electronic speedometer
Most older scooters have a mechanical speedometer: a drive on the front wheel turns a cable, which in turn drives the speedometer mechanism. Newer models often measure speed with an electronic sensor, so there is no cable. Before buying a part, check which system your scooter has.
Universal digital speedometers
Universal Stage6 and Koso instruments fit almost any scooter because they calculate speed from a magnet on the wheel and a sensor rather than from a cable. Some models also show revs or temperature – you'll find this in the product description. They are often fitted alongside a performance cylinder or ignition when you want to keep an eye on how the engine is running.
Model-specific replacement speedometers
If the original dashboard fails, the simplest option is a speedometer made for your model, such as the TNT Yamaha Slider / Aerox / Booster Naked (2013–2017) or the ECO Peugeot Kisbee. It mounts in the original position and plugs into the existing wiring, so there's no need to make brackets.
Frequently asked questions
Why has my scooter's speedometer stopped working?
Most often the speedometer cable has snapped or the drive on the front wheel has worn out – the needle then stays still or jumps around. Check whether the cable turns when you spin the wheel; if it does but the needle doesn't move, the fault is in the speedometer itself.
How do I find the right gauge part for my scooter?
Cables, drives and replacement speedometers are matched by model and production year, as given in the product name. If you can't find your model, email it to info@scootershop.lt or call +370 608 07699 – we'll check what fits.
Why does a tuned scooter need a temperature gauge?
A tuned engine runs hotter, and overheating can end in a seized piston. A temperature gauge shows coolant or cylinder head temperature in real time, so you have time to ease off or check the cooling system.
Does the speedometer show my exact speed?
Stock speedometers often read slightly higher than your actual speed, and the error changes if you change the wheel or tyre size. A GPS app on your phone is an easy way to check your real speed.
