About Duro
How to read a tyre size
A marking of 130/70-12 means: 130 mm tyre width, 70 – the profile height as a percentage of the width, 12 – the rim diameter in inches. Next to it are the load index and speed rating (e.g. 56P). The new tyre's size must match the one given in your scooter's specifications or on the sidewall of the old tyre.
Front and rear tyres
Most scooters have different sizes front and rear, e.g. 120/70-12 at the front and 130/70-12 at the rear. When fitting, look at the arrow on the sidewall – it shows the direction of rotation. When replacing one tyre, it is worth checking the tread depth and age of the other one too.
When to replace tyres
Replace a tyre when the tread has worn down to the wear indicators (TWI), cracks appear in the sidewalls or the rubber has hardened with age. Even tyres that have done few kilometres lose grip after a few years, so check the DOT code – the last four digits give the week and year of manufacture.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know what size tyres my scooter needs?
The size is printed on the sidewall of your current tyre, e.g. 130/60-13, with the load and speed indices next to it. Choose the same size and indices that are no lower. If the tyre is old or not the original, email your scooter model to info@scootershop.lt.
Can I use tyres from different manufacturers front and rear?
You can, but it is best to have tyres of a similar type front and rear – grip and handling are then more predictable. The key thing is that both tyres' sizes and indices meet the scooter manufacturer's requirements.
What does the TL marking on a tyre mean?
TL stands for tubeless. Most scooter rims are designed for tubeless tyres, so no inner tube is needed, but it is worth replacing the valve when changing the tyre.
What pressure should I inflate my scooter tyres to?
The pressure is specified by the scooter manufacturer – it is in the owner's manual or on a sticker on the frame. It is usually slightly lower at the front than at the rear, and when riding two-up the rear tyre pressure should be increased. Check the pressure while the tyres are cold.
