Good to know
50 cc or 70–80 cc
Performance 50 cc kits, such as the Malossi MHR Replica or Airsal Tech Racing 50 cc, keep the capacity the same but give more power than the stock cylinder. 70–80 cc kits increase engine capacity, so it will no longer match what's stated in the registration documents. Before choosing, think about where and how you'll be riding.
Power and the gearbox
In the geared AM6 engine, the extra power passes through the clutch into the gearbox, so with an 80 cc kit it's worth uprating the clutch and reviewing the final drive sprocket ratio. The carburettor is often swapped for a bigger one too, along with an exhaust designed for a performance cylinder.
Studs and mounting
The AM6 cylinder is held on by studs screwed into the crankcase. Old studs that are stretched or have damaged threads may not hold the required torque, especially in a performance engine. When fitting a new kit, it's worth replacing the whole stud kit along with the nuts.
Frequently asked questions
Will an AM6 cylinder fit my Rieju or Beta moped?
It will if the moped has a Minarelli AM6 engine – it's used by many manufacturers, including Yamaha, Rieju and Beta. If in doubt, call +370 608 07699 and give us the model and year.
Does an 80 cc kit need a different crankshaft?
Most 70–80 cc kits work with a standard-stroke crank, but some racing cylinders need a special long-stroke crankshaft. The cylinder manufacturer specifies this, so check before ordering.
How do I run in a new AM6 cylinder?
For the first few hundred kilometres, vary the revs and gears and avoid long spells at full speed. After running in, check the spark plug and adjust the carburettor if needed.
Will a performance 50 cc cylinder increase my speed?
Yes, a quality performance 50 cc cylinder adds power, but its full potential only comes through with the right exhaust and carburettor. If the moped is restricted from the factory, other restrictors may also be limiting its speed.
