Good to know

How a kill switch works

On most two-stroke scooters the engine is switched off by connecting the CDI kill wire to earth – that is also how the ignition switch works. The kill switch is wired into the same circuit, so pressing it or pulling out its plug (depending on the type) cuts the ignition and the engine stops.

Where and why to fit one

The kill switch is mounted on the handlebar so you can reach it without letting go of the grip. It comes in handy on the track and on tuned scooters with a performance ignition, where the factory ignition switch may no longer be fitted, and an emergency cut-out is often mandatory in competition.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I connect the kill switch?

The switch is connected to the CDI kill wire and to earth; on many Japanese scooters this wire is black and white. The wire colour depends on the model, so check it against the wiring diagram or ask us on +370 608 07699.

Does an everyday scooter need a kill switch?

It is not required, as the ignition switch turns the engine off, but it is useful if the ignition switch has been removed or the scooter is used on the track. It also lets you shut the engine down quickly if the throttle cable sticks.

Does a kill switch protect against theft?

A hidden switch can make it harder for someone else to start the scooter, but it is not real protection. A more reliable option is an alarm or a security chain, which you will find in the "Security Systems" section.
