Good to know

Where to fit the temperature sensor

On a liquid-cooled engine the sensor is usually fitted into a coolant hose via an adapter and shows the coolant temperature. On an air-cooled engine a ring-type sensor under the spark plug is used – it measures the cylinder head temperature. Before buying, check which type of sensor suits your engine.

What a voltmeter shows

A voltmeter helps you spot a charging system fault in good time. A healthy 12 V battery at rest reads about 12.6 V or slightly more, and with the engine running the voltage usually rises to 13.5–14.5 V. If it does not rise, or jumps above 15 V, it is worth checking the voltage regulator and the alternator.

Frequently asked questions

Why would a scooter need a temperature gauge?

A temperature gauge lets you see whether the engine is overheating – this is especially important for tuned engines with a performance cylinder. A rapidly rising temperature can mean a lean mixture, low coolant or a water pump that is not working.

What is the difference between a temperature gauge and a voltmeter?

A temperature gauge measures the engine or coolant temperature, while a voltmeter measures the voltage of the electrical system. The first protects the engine from overheating; the second helps you avoid an unexpectedly flat battery.

How do I know whether an instrument will fit my scooter?

All the instruments in this category are universal, so the key questions are what type of sensor your engine needs and where you will mount the instrument. Call +370 608 07699 or email info@scootershop.lt with your scooter model and we will advise.
